    The first attachment here is from the documentation page, https://waspthemes.com/yellow-pencil/documentation/#template-customization 

    It shows a very different interface than what I see with Twentyseventeen WP theme (see other two images for typical actual display). Under what circumstances would I ever be offered to customize templates such as Search, 404, Category, Author and Post?

    Sorry for confusion, we didn't had time to update documentation images with latest update.

    You can customize them as single template.

    This doesn't really shed any light on the issue. I can't begin to understand what you mean. What will the updated documentation say? If you post an update here you can refer others to it.

    To me it looks like the functionality has sharply regressed with new versions, and thus the documentation skew. If so, it stands as a bait-and-switch to those like me who paid for a license.

    I don't understand your question? What do you mean by circumstances?

    Plugin author released an update to fix some major issues and he is now on a trip for couple months. We're trying to handle many tickets that come each day so we can't manage to update documentation. Nothing major was changed on frontend, most things were fixed im backend.

    But, regarding your question. You should just go to 404, search or any other page and customize it like any other page. Don't know what's the problem?
